Routsong returns to Library
From Franklin Memorial Library

ROUTSONG, RIGHT, WITH HEATH PALMER AND HIS SON, KASON
Scott Routsong, balloonist extraordinaire, returned to Franklin Memorial Library July 10 with a few new tricks up his sleeve. Scott juggled his way around the room getting the children involved and motivated. As Children's Services Coordinator at Coastal Plain Regional Library, Scott has a desire to get children interested in reading. He became very animated when he read to the kids.

As a part of the "Reading Takes You Everywhere" theme, Scott pulled out a pirate flag and told the history of the skull and crossbones. Scott ended his performance with his specialty, making different shapes with balloons everything from swords to dogs. Scott continued to make swords and other shapes with the balloons as the children were served pizza and lemonade.

More than 300 children signed up for the 2007 Vacation Reading Program with over 4,600 books read and 107 certificates were given out to those children who read at least 25 books each.

Readers of the week were Elijah Worthen, Juan Brown, Danielle Hilliard, Justin Washington and Devin Hall. Each child was given a gift bag. The top three readers were given bean bag chairs. They were Summer Ellington, Sam- Mya Anderson and Cortney Doyle.
