Judge Rawlings 'an excellent choice'

DEAR EDITOR:

On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I would like to congratulate Judge Thomas Charles Rawlings for his appointment by Governor Sonny Perdue as the new State Child Advocate. His stellar record of service as Juvenile Court judge in the Middle Judicial Circuit - for which he was named Georgia's Juvenile Court Judge of the Year in 2006 by the Young Lawyers Division of the State Bar of Georgia - makes him uniquely qualified to assume his new duties.

As Thomas Jefferson said, "The study of law qualifies a man to be useful to himself, to his neighbors and to the public." By accepting the challenges associated with the position of State Child Advocate, Judge Rawlings will be dedicated to improving the quality of life for Georgia's most precious resource, our children.

I thank Judge Rawlings and countless other Georgia lawyers and judges for their willingness to serve others, which, in the finest tradition of our justice system, helps protect the rights and liberties of all Americans.

GERALD M. EDENFIELD

President, State Bar of Georgia
