SHS gym plans unveiled

At Emanuel County Board of Education's Monday meeting, Superintendent Butch Frye unveiled the architectural drawings of the new Swainsboro High School gymnasium. Bids for the construction of the gym will begin in late June.

Also at the meeting, Superintendent Frye welcomed Jean Schwabe as the new assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction. Schwabe replaces Ray Woods.

Approved at the meeting were the following:

Meal prices: Breakfast: Paid student, 50 cents; reduced student, 30 cents; adult, $1.35. Lunch: Paid student, $1; reduced student, 40 cents; adult, $2.25.

Affirmation of the Emanuel County Schools Mission Statement, Belief Statement and Strategic Directions.

Tentative approval was given to the following:

Employment

Terri Webb, food service, Adrian School of Performing Arts; Kim Barnes, paraprofessional, Twin City Elementary; Dionsha Freeman, substitute custodian, system; Bill Bonds, assistant principal, Emanuel County Institute; Lucy McNeely, and Yontra Royster, teachers, Swainsboro Middle School.

Approval was given to the following:

Termination

Phyllis Dudley, food service, ECI.

Resignation

Lee Ty Meeks, paraprofessional, SMS; Shannon Willis graduation coach, ECI; Jamie Couey, teacher, Swainsboro Elementary School; Amy McGowan, teacher, SHS.

Transfers

Lynn Stevens, from paraprofessional at Swainsboro Primary School to bookkeeper at SMS; Denise Warnock, from teacher to graduation coach at SMS.

The board also agreed to transfer Twin City Elementary Principal Jim Jarvis to another position in the school system. That position will be determined at a later date. Huddie Culbreth will be interim principal at TCE and a permanent principal will be named in January.

Board members recognized the following:

ECI, SMS and SHS Bands for outstanding accomplishments during the 2006-07 school year.
