Screws, Morris complete regular tennis season undefeated
BY DIANE MORRIS

The SMS tennis team completed their regular season play with the long bus ride to Cochran to take on highly rated Bleckley County. Both girls and boys teams competed hard, but found out why Bleckley had earned their credentials. The boys succumbed by an 0-5 count, while the girls put up more resistance, but fell by a 2-3 tally.

The highlight of the day and for the entire season was the play of number one girls seed Brinsley Screws and number two seed Vanessa Morris. Both girls completed the regular season by winning every singles match they played. They accounted for the two victories for the SMS girls against the top ranked Bleckley girls. Screws won her match 8-5, while Morris won hers by an 8-4 score.

Boy's play against Bleckley was highlighted by number two seed Ryne Sutton losing a thrilling tie-break by a 5-7 score and number three seed Jared Screws putting up stiff resistance before falling 4 to 8.

Both boys and girls teams fought hard all season in finishing the regular season as the third seed entering their season ending region tournament.
