William "Randall" Johnson, 69

SWAINSBORO--Funeral for William "Randall" Johnson, 69, was held Thursday, April 19, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Tomlinson Funeral Home with Rev. Franklin Sasser, Rev. Joyce Grant and Dr. Bob Blankenship officiating. Burial was in Swainsboro City Cemetery. He died Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at his residence.

Mr. Johnson was born on March 15, 1938 in Uvalda, the eldest son of Joseph E. Johnson and Lena Currie Johnson. He attended primary through high school at Old Mt. Vernon Ailey School across the road from Brewton Parker College where he graduated in 1956. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in West Berlin and Arlington Hall Station, Va. He was ordained to the gospel ministry on July 7, 1968 by First Baptist Church of Uvalda. He served as pastor for over 17 years in the Baptist churches in Southeast Georgia. At the time of his death, he was the chaplain for United Hospice of Swainsboro. He graduated with a Bachelor of Theology from Christian Life School of Theology in January 2002. He was an advanced amateur photographer whose work was displayed at art galleries in Swainsboro and St. Simons Island. He also served as track photographer for the Golden Isles Speedway. He was the primary organizer for Swainsboro Alzheimer's Support Group.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lawson Johnson of Swainsboro; four sisters, Alice Phillips, Joan Johnson and Mary (Johnny) Bridwell of North Augusta, S.C.; and Karen (Van) Vereen of Swainsboro; a brother, Wayne (Charlotte) Johnson of Cedartown; three daughters, Melany Bowen of Swainsboro; Leah Johnson of Rincon; and Amy Johnson of Brunswick; three sons, Robbie (Michelle) Hagan of Ackworth; Randy (Merrilou) Johnson of Meldrim; and Kenny (Lynne) Johnson of Rock Hill, S.C.; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Pete Johnson, Thomas Johnson, Lee Webb, John Love, Mike Brewington and Dan Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were Rev. Clarence and Mildred Thompson, Keith Thompson, Roy Thompson, Raymond Riner, Bill Currie, Harry Martin, Johnny Garrett, Rev. Louis Pearce, Rev. Allen Meeks, Jimmy I. Johnson, Ken Grant and Will Roberts.

Tomlinson Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
