Wicker scholarship applications available

in extracurricular WICKER
Jason Wicker Memorial Scholarship applications are available to graduating seniors at Swainsboro High School and Emanuel County Institute.

Due to graduate from SHS in 2003, Jason Wicker was killed in a car accident earlier that year. An honor student, he was also involved in many extracurricular activities. As well as being the SHS drum major, he was a participant in Youth Leadership Emanuel and several clubs including Art Club, Beta Club, and Drama Club. A member of the Debate team and the Mock Trial team, he also participated in Quiz Bowl and One Act Competition.

According to classmate Lauren Dunn-Leasure, the most valuable asset that he brought to every activity in which he was involved was his positive attitude. "Jason was able to overcome hardship to accomplish all that he did in his few, short years," she added.

Recipient of the scholarship should possess his optimistic attitude and his interest in extracurricular activities and service to the community.

Established in 2004 by the Friends of Jason Wicker, the scholarship is funded by the annual presentation of "Live from Swainsboro... It's Saturday Night!" Presented on May 5 this year, the event takes place at Swainsboro- Emanuel County auditorium at 8 p.m.
