Kiwanis preparing for Pine Tree Festival

BILL BREEDLOVE AND JAMES SMITH LOOK AT PLANS FOR FESTIVAL
Members of Swainsboro Kiwanis Club are busy putting together the 62nd annual Pine Tree Festival. They are planning several different events that make up the celebrations for the festivities this year. "This year promises to be a new and exciting one because of the many businesses and merchants who are signing on to help promote our communities biggest event," said James E. Smith, one of the organizers.

Beginning with the Pine Tree Kids Nite on April 27 and ending with the Pine Tree Auto Race on Saturday night, the enjoyment "will be non-stop fun.," said Smith. The Radio Group, in conjunction with the Arts and Crafts Fair, is sponsoring not only the Kids Nite, but will be hosting the Battle of the Bands on the April 28 and the Grill Off the same day. On May 4, there will be a Street Dance on Green Street in front of the Boneyard Plaza.

Along with these events there will still be the Knotty Pine Run on Saturday morning, the Pine Tree Breeze Bike Ride, Arts and Crafts Fair, Carters Rock- N-Rides and of course the Parade on May 5.

Asoftball tournament is in the works with lawnmower races also being considered. "It is going to be a grand ol' time in downtown Swainsboro and everyone is invited to come and enjoy the festivities," said Smith. "If you are a civic organization and just a civic club we invite you to come and help us make this a true community based effort. So come work with us and together we can make the Emanuel County Pine Tree Festival one heck of a ride for the people of Emanuel County. If you are an artisan or a crafter we would love to hear from you. Dancers, musicians and singers are also needed to fill up time slots on Saturday, May 5, so contact me at 478-237-3060 and let's get together for a great time in downtown Swainsboro!"
