April art adventures!
Featuring forty-six Rodger and Hammerstein songs, Some Enchanted Evening" will be presented by Emanuel Arts on April 23 beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Swainsboro/ Emanuel County Auditorium. Performed by Springer Theatricals, the musical event uses the songs to tell the story of five people falling in and out of love. This professional touring company has delighted us for years with their top quality performances. Ticket prices are $15 general admission and $20 for preferred seating. Mill Creek is helping with the funding of this event which promises to be a delightful experience. Also that same week, Swainsboro High School performs "Footloose" on April 26 and 28 in the Swainsboro/ Emanuel County Auditorium at 7 p.m. If this is anything like last year's "Grease," it should be a lot of fun. Former Emanuel Arts Council board member Sandy Aldridge will be the director again with Dabney Edenfield, also a former EAC board member, as artistic director. Current member of the board, Donald Jenkins, will be playing Principal Harry Clark. (Since he was my daughter's principal at SES, this just might be typecasting.) For more information, contact SHS at 237-2267. Tickets are $10 the door and $7.50 in advance. As a fundraiser for The Relay for Life, Nordson is looking for the Emanuel Idol in an event that takes place on April 14 at the Emanuel County Fairgrounds. For more details on this event call 289-3028 during the day or 494- 9269. Nordson will match all the proceeds from the event. It costs $10 to enter. Admission is $5.) April 14 is also the night of the Second Saturday Art Stroll in Swainsboro, which takes place from 6 p.m. until 9 m. So you could take your meander around town early and then head out there. The Art Stroll becomes more popular each month and rightly so. Artwork can be seen various locations throughout town, including the Gallery RFD, the Emanuel Arts Kalmanson Gallery, Jack's Java Cove, and Brantley's Billiards. Some stores in downtown remain open with specials offers during the event. It really great to have so many people enjoying our beautiful downtown. Each month is different, so watch for details. Super Saturday Arts workshop for students age 7-12 also takes place on April 14 at the Emanuel Arts Center from 10-11:30 a.m. Cost is $5. Works of art using flowers as a medium will be on view at Vann Community Center on April 28 & 29. "Emanuel Memories" is the theme for this year's Flower Show presented by Glad Garden Club and Seedling Garden Club. If you have not attended one of these events, I promise you that you will be amazed by the beautiful displays. There is no admission charge. Following the new every-other-week schedule, Open Mic Night at Jack's Java Cove will happen THREE times next month on April 2, 16, and 30, starting at 7 p.m. Well, as you can see April promises to be a very full month. And May looks to be very busy as well. Not only will there be the Pinetree Festival, but "Live from Swainsboro... It's Saturday Night!" will return with all new sketches, surprises and fun. Both happen on May 5. VisitHTTP:// www.MySpace.com/SwainsboroSNL to learn more about the event. Joan Dunn is an artist, member of the Emanuel Arts Council Board of Directors and Secretary/Treasurer for the Emanuel Artists Guild. She is interested in learning about creative arts efforts throughout the area. Contact her at jdunn@nctv.com. More information about Emanuel Arts can be found at EmanuelArts.org.
