Cartaya to exhibit art during Art Stroll

'OFFERINGS' BY CARTAYA
Mel Cartaya, local artist and member of the Stillmoreroots Group, will be exhibiting a series of works and installation art beginning March 4 in the Kalmanson Gallery. An artist's talk will be held on Saturday, March 10 during the Art Stroll, from 6-9 p.m.

Cartaya's exhibit will feature many different artistic medias, including artists' books, paintings, gourds, and an installation altar. These recent works record her exploration of personal identity and spirituality. "To me, these pieces are an attempt to visually demonstrate the human connectivity," said Cartaya. "They are meant to be meaningful, personal, and sacred pictorials, while at the same time being familiar, and regarded without intimidation, in the fashion of objects you may use every day. These artworks are meant to be touched, picked up, carried, and read."

The Kalmanson Gallery is located in the Emanuel Arts Center on the corner of Church and Green streets. Cartaya's works will be on display from March 4 to 23. The event is hosted by the Emanuel Arts Council and is free and open to the public. Normal Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information call (478) 237- 2592.
