Bertha Lee Beasley Gay, 99 SWAINSBORO--Funeral for Bertha Lee Beasley Gay, 99, was held Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Ray Freeman and Rev. Tom Osborne officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. She died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007 at Heritage Healthcare Nursing Home in Swainsboro. Mrs. Gay was born in Statesboro and had lived in Swainsboro since 1970. She was a homemaker and a member of Friendship Baptist Church near Statesboro. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Elmer Gay; two grandsons, Steven Alan Kirkendall and Barney Darden Gay Jr.; and a great-grandchild, Emily Adams. Survivors include two daughters, Betty Joan Kirkendall of Pioneer, Ohio; and Faye Mitchell (Leon) of Swainsboro; two sons, Barney Darden Gay (Margie) and Dan M. Gay (Jeanann) of Columbia, S.C.; a sister, Beatrice Ellis (John Paul) of Statesboro; 14 grandchildren, 15 greatgrandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Mark Kirkendall, Terry Kirkendall, Tracy Busch, Michael Gay, Greg Adam and Geremy Adams. Tomlinson Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
