Lady Eagles win 12th game

The David Emanuel Academy Lady Eagles improved to 12-9 on the season with a 51-18 win over Twiggs Academy last Saturday night in Jeffersonville.

Macy Fagler led the way with 21 points and in the process passed Shelia Canady (1041) on the school's all-time scoring list into 9th place with 1055 career points at the end of the night. Jessica Cook grabbed a game high 19 rebounds and scored eight points while playing just over two quarters. Gabrielle Story with eight points, Jessica Wimberly with six points, Sara Cuillierrierr with three, Bonnie McNeely with two and Amanda Cardell with one all scored in the win as the Lady Eagles improved to 4-5 in region play. Lindsay Ellington led Twiggs with ten points.

"It was nice to bounce back with a road win after playing the way we did on Friday night," said Coach Andy Callaway. "We seem to play better on the road for some reason."

Friday night's game was a 52-31 defeat to visiting Robert Toombs before a packed house in Stillmore. The Lady Eagles suffered a disastrous second quarter as they were outscored 22-5 in that stanza and trailed 30-10 at intermission.

"It just all fell apart for us in the second quarter," said Callaway. "Macy picked up her third foul and had to sit and then we turned the ball over several times against their press."

Jessica Cook led DEA with 12 points followed by Macy Fagler with ten points. Amy Wells with four points, Laura Cardell with two points, Sara Cuillierrierr with two points and Amanda Cardell with one point all scored for the Lady Eagles. Mallory McClendon led Robert Toombs with 11 points and Hannah Dees tossed in ten.

In B-team action it was Robert Toombs taking a 22-13 win behind Janna Cate Roth's eight points. Courtney Cook led DEA with five points followed by Courtney Johnson with three, Blythe Morgan with two, Nikki Dye with two and Julia Euskirchen with one.

The Lady Eagles will conclude the regular season this Saturday with a non-region game at Nathanael Greene Academy with tip-off set for 2 pm. Region tournament play will begin on Monday, Feb. 12 at East Georgia College with pairings and times to be determined.
