'Dancing with Stars'

JANICE NEWTON AND JOHN DURST
Pilot Club of Emanuel County is sponsoring "Swainsboro Dancing with the Stars" Friday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. at Swainsboro Emanuel County Auditorium. Admission is $10 and proceeds will benefit Project Lifesaver.

Janice Newton and John Durst will be a couple kicking up their heels that night. Janice is from Swainsboro and John is from Lyons. Janice is a graduate of Louisiana State University and John is a graduate of Virginia Military Institute. Janice owns and operates Credit Guard of Georgia and John is a calculus and physics teacher as well as an assistant football coach at Pinewood Christian Academy. The couple has been friends for four years. John enjoys football, golf and traveling while Janice enjoys decorating, freelance writing, traveling and gardening. Both enjoy Top 40 and 50s music and like to dance the shag.

Kate Taylor of Albuquerque, N.M. will be dancing the flamenco. She has a masters degree from University of New Mexico and teaches fulltime at East Georgia College in Statesboro. She has been married for almost a year to Chris Taylor. She enjoys dancing, reading, writing poetry, and spending time outdoors with her husband and dogs. Her favorite dance is the flamenco and she enjoys world music, underground hip-hop, alternative and folk music.

JOHN MITCHELL
John Henry Mitchell will be dancing with Evelyn Hall. John is from Swainsboro and Evelyn works at Metter Nursing Home. John is a graduate of Emanuel County Elementary and High School and is a painter. John has been dancing for 43 years. He enjoys golfing and dancing the swing. His favorite music is Motown and R&B.

Pilot Club of Emanuel County, in association with Emanuel County Sheriff's Department, recently launched Project Lifesaver, a program that uses transmitters to locate people with brain related disorders who are lost after wandering from home.
