Dunn resigns from KEB

DUNN
Joan Dunn has resigned as director of Keep Emanuel Beautiful, a position that she has held since 1991. At that time, the agency was known as the Swainsboro/Emanuel County Clean Community Commission and included the Recycling Advisory Board. "There was a lot of energy and enthusiasm about what we were doing," Dunn commented. "The Clean Community Commission was only a couple of years old and the Recycling Center was just beginning operations. Everything seemed new and exciting and people were interested in what we were doing."

Over the years, there have been numerous clean-ups, many news articles including two tabloids devoted to recycling in Emanuel County, frequent "Keeping Emanuel Beautiful" columns in The Forest- Blade, several visits to schools and more than a few impromptu discussions about litter and trash and unsightly dumpsters, along with nearly 200 Clean Community Commission, Recycling Advisory Board and Keep Emanuel Beautiful meetings. "But I treasure most the many wonderful and dedicated people that I have met and worked with over my years as KEB director," Dunn said. "There are just too many to begin to try to name them all. I hope that with my departure, Keep Emanuel Beautiful will take a fresh approach to the many issues that have faced us," Dunn added. "I have devoted many years of my life to this organization and I expect it will continue to be an important part of our community."

When asked about her plans for the future, Dunn responded, "With the emerging art scene in our community, I have become inspired to work more intensively on my art. I am excited about exploring and developing my methods and my vision." Dunn has shown her art in several exhibitions during the past two decades. Along with Candy Powers, Dunn will have work on display at Jack's Java Cove in May 2007.

Dunn has also been Keep Southeast Georgia Beautiful secretary/treasurer; Pilot Club of Emanuel County president, president-elect and secretary; Swainsboro Garden Club president; Garden Club of Georgia Oleander District Tree chairman; Emanuel Arts Council secretary; and Arts Emanuel Festival Community liaison. Her other volunteer efforts have included Special Olympics, Relay for Life, Franklin Memorial Library, and Bloodmobile. She currently serves on the Emanuel Arts Council Board of Directors and is the Secretary Treasurer of the Emanuel Artists Guild.

Dunn's resignation is effective Feb. 9.
