Officer dead after self-inflicted shooting

OGLESBY
Emanuel County Jail Officer Jamie Oglesby, 68, of Twin City, died Thursday, Jan. 11 of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Coroner Walter Jeffrey Peebles. Oglesby was off-duty at the time of the shooting. He was found in his truck near a restaurant in Twin City.

"Jamie Oglesby had worked many years in law enforcement including Twin City Police Department, where he once served as chief, Sardis Police Department and most recently, as jail officer with Emanuel County Sheriff's office," said Emanuel County Sheriff Tyson Stephens. "Jamie was a dedicated employee and I would like to extend our deepest sympathy to his family."

An autopsy was conducted Friday, Jan. 12 at Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab in Atlanta.
