COACH ALDRIDGE
Coach Hank Aldridge of Swainsboro will be recognized by two organizations in Georgia for his accomplishments in and contributions to high school baseball. Aldridge will be inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame at the Sheraton Midtown in Atlanta on Jan. 20. On March 9, he will be inducted into the Waycross-Ware County Sports Hall of Fame. The induction in Atlanta will begin at 11 a.m., and there is no cost for guests. The induction in Waycross will be held at 7 p.m. at the Exchange Club on Knight Avenue. A reservation can be made for anyone wishing to attend. Cost is $10 and includes a banquet meal.

Aldridge was the head baseball coach of the Swainsboro High School Tigers for 20 years, 1982- 2001. He also coached football, softball, and basketball during his years at SHS, but his sterling reputation was built on the baseball diamond as he coached his teams to eight region titles, two of them resulting in state runnerup trophies. He tallied 378 wins, 149 losses, and 1 tie. Not only did Aldridge build a strong program at Swainsboro High School, he has also been active in building other local baseball programs. He coached several teams for the Swainsboro-Emanuel County Recreation Department that were competitive not only in district play, but which went on to win state titles.

On a state level, Aldridge helps bring together many of the state's top graduating players for all-star games each year. For 10 years, he has been Southeast All-Star Coordinator for the Georgia Dugout Club, an organization expressly for high school baseball coaches. It promotes the sport through yearly all-star games and by awarding players and coaches for outstanding achievement.

Coach Aldridge will be inducted into his hometown's Sports Hall of Fame in March. He is being honored for the positive impact he has made in high school and college baseball as well as for the achievements of his professional career. He lettered three years each in baseball and football at Ware County High where he graduated with athletic and academic honors in 1976. He went on to Brunswick Junior College and then to Georgia College in Milledgeville where he played baseball while earning a degree in Health and Physical Education. Upon graduation from Georgia College, Aldridge moved to Swainsboro where he has served as teacher and coach for the past 26 years.
