Parrish is grand marshal

PARRISH
Dessie Parrish will be the grand marshal for he annual Martin Luther King Jr., Day Parade in downtown Swainsboro Monday, Jan. 15 at 1 p.m. Theme this year is "Embrace the Dream: It's More Than Just ADay."

Parrish, 78, has been a resident of Swainsboro for 54 years. He retired as warehouse worker for the Department of Administrative Services and Surplus Property after 31 years. His affiliations include announcer for the Sunday morning gospel program at WJAT for the last 30 years, member of Fair & Honest Society, Jethro Council, St. Philip Lodge #96 for almost 50 years, past Worshipful Master, and 20 years as secretary of the Lodge. He is also member of Rountree Chapel Missionary Baptist Church for 69 years and choir president for 27 years; member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #114; and was manager of the Starlight Spirituals Gospel singing group for 39 years.

He was married to the late Elsie G. Parrish and has five children, all born in Swainsboro: Willie A. Roberson, Barbara Trice, Elaine Saunders, Beverly Steele and Julie Johnson.
