Arrest made in SHS bomb threat

CHIEF DEPUTY JOEL BEECHER SEARCHES CLASSROOM (Photo by Agan Tankersley.)
On Monday, Jan. 8 at approximately 10 a.m., Emanuel County Sheriff's Office, Swainsboro Police Department, Swainsboro Fire Department and Emanuel County EMS were called to respond to Swainsboro High School in response to a bomb threat that had been called in to the school. After students were evacuated from the school, law enforcement officers conducted a search for items of a suspicious nature with negative results.

Investigators from the Sheriff's Office began a criminal investigation into the matter at this time. As a result, investigators were able to determine that the call to the school had been made by a black female using the payphone at a South Main Street convenience store. Surveillance video from the store provided investigators with both a description of the caller and of her vehicle.

That vehicle was spotted later in the day by Investigator Rocky Davis as it pulled up to a red light next to the courthouse. The driver of the vehicle, who was identified as Tatyana Renette Leverett, 19, was later determined to be the caller. She was arrested without incident and charged with Terroristic Threats and Acts. She is currently being held in the Emanuel County Jail.
