BI-LO to close Swainsboro location

BI-LO announced Friday, Jan. 5 that its store located at 503 S. Main Street in Swainsboro will be closing its doors on Saturday, Jan. 13. BI-LO has operated in this community for 25 years and has decided not to renew its lease. The store will be closing at 7 p.m.

"This BI-LO location has been a part of the community for a long time and we want our loyal customers to know how much we appreciate their patronage," said Sam Blaiss, regional vice-president for BI-LO. As part of the company's long term plan, BI-LO will concentrate on core markets where they hold leading market share positions or see significant potential for growth.

"We are sorry to see any business close in Swainsboro, but I still feel the market here is very strong and I think things are moving in a positive direction," said Swainsboro Mayor Charles Schwabe. "I would not be surprised to see similar stores looking to locate in Swainsboro."

Currently, the Swainsboro BI-LO employs 39 people. BI-LO will offer everyone the opportunity to transfer to other stores in the area. BI-LO/Bruno's operates over 300 supermarkets in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama and Florida. The company employs approximately 23,500 people.
