SMS Honor Band chosen

SMS HONOR BAND
Thirteen Swainsboro Middle School band members were selected for membership in the 2006- 07 University of Georgia Honor Band. Students auditioned against other middle school band students from across the state for selection in this event.

The students selected were Brionna Green (flute), Buckley Screws (clarinet), Lani Garrett (clarinet), Sierra Beasley (clarinet), Jordan Drew (Alto Sax), Tom Golden (Alto Sax), Ashton Coleman (Bari Sax), Brinsley Screws (French Horn), Steven Chrysosferidis (Trumpet), Lynquez Blair (Trumpet), Phillip Torrance (Trumpet), Michael

Muns (Euphonium) and Edgar Cruz (Tuba). They were selected from over 1800 eligible musicians from all over the state of Georgia.

Once the students arrived at the festival they auditioned against 800 students for chair placement within the bands. Almost all of the students placed within the top third of their sections, with Buckley Screws, Michael Muns, Brinsley Screws, Sierra Beasley, Jordan Drew, Tom Golden, and Ashton Coleman selected as some of the best players on their instruments.

In addition, Buckley Screws was selected to participate in the top honor

band which was directed by noted band composer Robert Sheldon. Mr. Sheldon wrote a piece of music for this band which they premiered at the final concert.

SMS Band director Gene Hundley stated that he was very proud of the outstanding work of these students. “These thirteen band members are some of the kids that want to really excel on their instrument and are willing to go the extra mile to be truly outstanding players. My hat is off to them and I congratulate them for this as well as thank them for the great job they do each day for our band.”
