Chauhan, Donaldson are Governor’s Honors candidates

Local students to represent Emanuel County in the 2007 Governor’s Honors competition were selected recently. This year Emanuel County will have two eleventh grade students competing for the opportunity to attend the six-week Governor’s Honors Program. This year’s county representatives are Hanish Chauhan of Swainsboro High School and Matt Donaldson of Emanuel County Institute.

Hanish, the son of Dinesh and Pushpa Chauhan of Swainsboro, will represent the county in the area of mathematics. He has served as an officer in TSA, FBLA, and Beta Club. He has also served as a member of the Math Team, Academic Team, Yearbook Staff, Key Club, and Student Council. He has worked to raise money for the March of Dimes, local food drives, and the local animal shelter. Hanish has been recognized

for earning the highest average in geometry, Algebra II, history, and technology. He plans to pursue a career in medicine.

Matt is the son of Sandra Wells Willis and Stevie Wilson Donaldson of Twin City. He will represent the county in the area of social studies. Matt has been a member of the Beta club, Yearbook Staff, School Newspaper Staff, FFA, and FCA. He has served as a Bulldog Ambassador and has been recognized for student leadership for two years. He also earned Academic E as a sophomore.

Matt has been recognized for academic achievement in World History, U.S. History, Literature and Composition, and Health. He received the Daughters of the American Revolution Patriotism Award and was named a semi-finalist in the Region American Legion

High School Oratorical Contest. Matt plans to major in history in college, attend law school and pursue a career in banking law.

Georgia Governor’s Honors Program is a sixweek summer instructional program designed to provide intellectually gifted and artistically talented high school students challenging and enriching educational opportunities not usually available during the regular school year. Activities are designed to provide each participant with opportunities to acquire the skills, knowledge and attitudes to become independent, lifelong learners.

The two system nominees will be competing with others from across Georgia for the opportunity to attend the 2007 Governor’s Honors Program, which will be held next summer at Valdosta State University.
