Two wrestlers from David Emanuel Academy won their respective weight class tournaments last Saturday in the A Knight's Challenge Wrestling Tournament at Deerfield-Windsor School in Albany.

Junior Michael Holloway wrestled in the 160 pound class and went undefeated. He pinned Sung Hwan Kwon from Brandon Hall in the opening round and Kyle Manning of Windsor Academy in the championship, both in the first period.

Devon Scalf, also a junior, wrestled in the 285 pound class and went undefeated as well. Scalf pinned Chris Morris of Brandon Hall with a side headlock early in the first period. In the championship bout Scalf used a more vicious version of the side headlock to take out Jacob Weinberger only seconds into the match.

DEA also took home a third place award as freshman Richard Patrick. He battled Tyler Johnson from Brandon Hall before being pinned with only a few seconds left in the second period with the score at 13-9. Patrick then had to face last year's state runner-up Brad James from Windsor Academy and was pinned in the first period.

"We were very successful in our first tournament of the season coming away with two tournament

champions and a third place finish out of the three wrestlers that went" said DEA Head Coach Danny Lanier. "All three have worked hard at practice and showed their dedication by showing up at 4:30 AM for the ride to Albany on a Saturday morning. With hard work and dedication like this from our other team members, hopefully we will have a successful season."

Coach Lanier also noted the role of his assistant coaches Russell Lamb and Chris Lanier. "They have really helped out at practice with the hands on teaching of wrestling fundamentals." Both Lamb and Chris Lanier were highly successful wrestlers at DEA.
