Gretell Riner Claxton, 92 VIDALIA--Funeral for Gretell Riner Claxton, 92, was held Saturday, Dec. 2, 206 at 2 p.m. at Savannah Primitive Baptist Church, 309 Tibet Ave, Savannah. She died Nov. 29, 2006 at Bethany Nursing Center of Vidalia, where she had resided for the past three years. A native of Swainsboro, Mrs. Claxton had lived in Savannah since 1941 until the time that she moved to Vidalia. She was a 65-year member of the Savannah Primitive Baptist Church. She was the eldest daughter of John and Devella Riner. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Newman Claxton, Sr.; daughter, Norma Annette Claxton; grandson, Curtis Perry Claxton, and eight siblings. Survivors include one daughter, Wilma Strickland of Savannah; four sons and daughters-inlaw, James and Susan of Dunwoody; Charles and Rebekah of Blowing Rock, N.C.; Verlyn and Lyn of Concord, N.C.; and Robert and Nancy of Decatur; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Lynnwood Riner and Byron Riner of Swainsboro; and numerous nieces and nephews. Contributions may be sent to Bethany Nursing Center of Vidalia, P.O. Box 668, Vidalia, GA 30474 (a church governed and operated, non-profit facility) in memory of Gretell Claxton. Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home of Savannah had charge of arrangements.
