Letters To The Editor DEAR EDITOR: Jack Atkinson, your regular guest columnist, is a pleasure to read. His articles are witty, informative, and should be cherished for their historical value. With such talent, and his special story-telling abilities, Swainsboro and Garfield will likely lay claims to his celebrity. Keep up the good work! RONNIE JOHNSON DEAR EDITOR: The board of directors of Emanuel County Historical Preservation Society wishes to thank the many members and friends for their participation in our recent spaghetti supper find raiser. We deeply appreciate the donations and workers that made the event a great success. Community participation contributes to our commitment of collecting and preserving our county history for future generations. GLORIA MASON President, ECHP Swainsboro DEAR EDITOR: Emanuel County Institute experienced the agony of defeat this past Friday night. After posting an outstanding regular season record, Region 3-A Champions ECI (10-0) fell in the first round of the State Playoffs. Disappointment was felt throughout the community, student body, players and coaches. But some of those players, parents and coaches experienced a victory this season that can never be taken away from them. They experienced a victory that can only be won through having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Our community is blessed to have coaches like Milan Turner that care more about the boys that they coach than they do about wins and losses. Don't think for a second that wins and losses aren't important, but these coaches truly do have their priorities in order. It's awesome to have coaches that would rather talk to you about three players that had given their lives to Christ the previous week than talk to you about the "big win" Friday night. His priorities and his conviction tell him that the "big win" was when those three young men prayed the sinners' prayer. I have a son that has played C-team football the past two seasons and will move up to B-team this coming season. I have another son and a step-son that plan to begin playing C-team football this coming season. I can honestly say, win, lose or draw, there is not another program and coach that I would rather have my boys play for. I sincerely believe that the Lord brought Coach Turner into this community at a time when he is truly needed. I don't know how long Coach Turner will be here, but I do hope that it is for a very long time. Thank you, Coach Turner for everything you have done and continue to do for our community, our players, parents and school. ALLEN JORDAN Swainsboro
