Windsor edges DEA in season finalé Nov. 10
By ANDY CALLAWAY

It was one of the better efforts of the season. But in the end all the hard work and determination still left the David Emanuel Academy Eagles short of victory as visiting Windsor Academy came away with a 14-8 win in the football season finale for both teams.

DEA fell behind 14-0 in the first half before holding the Knights scoreless in the second half. The Eagles mounted a 72 yard seven play drive in the third quarter highlighted by runs of 25 and 12 yards by Greg Glover. Chad Durden, who finished with a team high 70 yards, crashed in from seven yards out with 3:59 left in the period before Glover carried defenders across the goal line on the two point conversion.

The Eagles put together another sustained drive in the fourth quarter, driving all the way to the Windsor 11. But a holding penalty backed DEA to the 22 and the series ended three plays later.

DEA had one last shot at tying the game or taking the lead late in the game. But a pass interception at the Knights 36 ended the last ditch effort.

Windsor drew first blood after DEA went for the first down on fourth and three at their own 27 and gained only a yard on the games opening possession. Five plays and one penalty later, Kent Gibson ran in from seven yards out and Justin Roberts nailed the PAT kick to give the Knights a 7-0 lead with 7:56 left in the first period.

After the teams traded punts, DEA fumbled at midfield and the Knights recovered at the Eagles 47. Runs by Gibson and then a 19 yard pass from Seth Fuller to Justin Jones moved the ball to the DEA two. One play later, Derek Scarbary scored the Knights second touchdown of the game with 10:11 showing on the second quarter clock.

With the loss, DEA ends the 2006 season with a record of five wins and six losses. Windsor completes the year with a record of 6- 5.

Nine seniors, James Ward, Greg Glover, Jared Flowers, Logan Salter, Houston Holloway, Curt Ducker, Clifford Byrd, Chad Durden and Justin Smith all played their final football game at David Emanuel Academy in this contest.
