Smith State Park hosts annual cane grinding November 18 The sixth annual Cane Grinding event will be held at George L. Smith II State Park near Twin City on Saturday, Nov. 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Guests will be able to observe cane being ground and there will be jars of syrup for sale and sampling of cane juice before it is turned into syrup. Ms. Dora Seales will be cooking on a wood stove from 1800. Her menu is as follows: Collard greens, black-eyed peas, sweet potatoes, fried cornbread, fried chicken and sweet tea. Plates are $6 each. "Please join us for this grinding and enjoy a walk through the covered bridge and grist mill," said a spokesperson. "You will be able to see beautiful cypress tress changing to fall colors."
