Dear Editor:

I would like to take this opportunity to commend the law enforcement officers in Swainsboro and Emanuel County.

Recently while shopping at a local grocery store, my purse was stolen in the checkout area. The Harvey’s personnel were helpful and notified the police, who came immediately and gathered all necessary information. Officer Meadows continued to work with the store manager and others and kept me abreast of any progress.

Since I was visiting for the weekend, I had far more valuables in my purse than usual. Police Chief John Shuman was thorough in his investigation and assured me that work would continue in a timely fashion.

Jail Administrator Marty Mercer worked tirelessly and demonstrated professionalism each step of the way. Sheriff Stephens, Police Chief John Shuman, Administrator Mercer and others coordinated their efforts to resolve my situation.

Thanks to the law enforcement officials in Swainsboro and Emanuel County. They are deserving of praise and commendation. Experiences such as these can cause me to continue to reflect with pride on my growing up in Swainsboro.

Janice Layton Hall, Ellijay, Ga.
