Club Scrub coming soon to EMC
What is a respiratory therapist? What do they do? What about a laboratory technician or a physical therapist? What happens in the emergency room? Who works there? Students can get the answer to these questions and others at Club Scrub, Emanuel Medical Center’s new health careers middle school program!
Club Scrub is an after-school program designed to spark interest in health-related careers among 8th grade students through informative, hands-on activities. Students will have the opportunity to speak with health care providers and try things out in a variety of hospital departments, (including the laboratory, nursing areas, emergency room, surgery and various therapy departments).
The primary goal of the program is to increase awareness of health-related professions and the numerous career opportunities that are available in the health sciences. Club Scrub will be a great opportunity for students to acquire this knowledge by working side-by-side with employees working in the field!!
The first Club Scrub meeting will be held on October 14 from 3:30pm to 5:00pm. Following this initial meeting, Club Scrub will be held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month. Snacks will be provided.
Club Scrub is free, but the student must get their completed application in by September 12. Only 15 participants will be chosen based on their essay submission. Any 8th grade student may pick-up their application from Ms. Gail Greenway at Swainsboro Middle School. Please contact Beth Hudson, Director of Community Relations, Emanuel Medical Center at 478-289-1356 or bhudson@emamuelmedical.org or Tara Cramer, Executive Director of the East Georgia Health Cooperative, Inc at 478-553-2497 or tcramer@eghealthcoop.org. with any questions.
